On Saturday night we hosted the Brush Square Bash & Lounge, highlighted by new wave, nerd cover band The Spazmatics and featuring barbecue, custom Domain Fire drinks, and lots of free swag. Over 1,000 people were in attendance and the atmosphere was electric.

The SXSW Trade Show kicked off on Sunday morning at the Austin Convention Center. The Domain.com booth (#823) is promoting innovative thinking with an all-new, employee created custom engineered Twitter controlled candy machine that dispenses prizes when people tweet @domaindotcom. The Twitter machine distributed so much candy on the first day, the Domain.com team needed to make a run to Target to stock up on more treats!

We’re also challenging attendees to test their creativity with the SXSW Product Generator, an app developed by our Labs Division team.  The Domain.com tool is a fun, invent-a-product, “Mad Libs” style product generator, which automatically creates “articles” based on visitor input.

The Domain.com open hardware candy machine (“Disrupt Feeder”) was inspired by suggestions from Hackers at TechCrunch Disrupt NYC 2012. The machine runs on an Arduino Uno with a sonar sensor and OLED display.

DISRUPT SF attendees are invited to take what they like from the tower of treats and watch the Feeder in action. As the candy level drops, the Uno records the change, sending it to a python script that updates a MySQL database hosted on a Domain.com hosting account. Progress is tracked via a cumulative consumption graph (follow it live here), which makes updates each time a drop of 2 cubic cm is recorded.

The Disrupt Feeder debuted in July at OSCON Portland and Disrupt SF attendees are challenged to beat those results. Stop by the Domain.com table, say hi and, grab some goodies.
